Eye-Gazing Into the Future
They say that the eyes are windows to the soul. For me, they are also my voice to the world. Living with cerebral palsy meant I couldn't speak. I had no way to express my thoughts and feelings, no way to tell the people I love how much they mean to me, no way to be heard in the world. I couldn't even ask for a drink of water. Then along came AAC. AAC is Augmentative Assistive Communication. AAC did not miraculously fix my vocal musculature and restore my speech, but it did the next best thing. Through the invention of eye gaze technology, I can now use my eye movements to communicate. In just a few years eye gaze has opened the door for me to finish high school, attend college, and most importantly, talk to the people in my world. I have my own consulting business, produce videos and am an experienced public speaker on the topic of AAC.
